The Lady of Beginnings

The Lady of Beginnings was the first painting I completed. She is painted on plywood. I used Acrylics and emulsions. She is the beginning for me, the warrior princess clearing the path for all good things. She is trailblazer, crusader, lover, mother, daughter, sister, niece, princess, queen, goddaughter, wife, girlfriend, godmother and grandmother! I learnt a lot painting her. I was reminded to be open to U-Turns… sometimes what feels like going backwards leads to a leap forward. I had painted the foreground without balancing the background. The more I tried to fix it, the uglier it became. My intuition said paint over it all. My brain stubbornly refused, then I surrendered. Not knowing what to expect I took the spray paint out. As I sprayed away I got it. It matted everything together with a transparent layer allowing me to paint back in the foreground. If you look closely you will find a Saluki in there.
